CHIEF NALUBAMBA SEEKS PARTNERSHIP WITH MINISTRY OF ENERGY

Chief Nalubamba of the Ila-speaking people of Namwala District in Southern Province has called for strengthened collaboration with the Ministry of Energy to support the Ikubi Lya Banamunyati traditional ceremony through initiatives that promote sustainable energy development.

Speaking during a courtesy call on the Ministry today, the traditional leader said the ceremony aims to highlight practical solutions that advance energy sustainability, including youth entrepreneurship in solar technologies.

He noted that the chiefdom is championing environmental protection, particularly tree preservation, and expressed confidence that a partnership with the Ministry would help identify mutually beneficial programmes and showcase innovations that align with national energy priorities.

Permanent Secretary – Electricity, Eng. Arnold Simwaba, commended Chief Nalubamba for opening avenues for collaboration and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to working with traditional authorities to advance community-based energy solutions.

He said the Minister of Energy is open to engaging with representatives from the Mbeza Palace to explore ideas that can contribute to national energy development. Eng. Simwaba further underscored that Zambia’s energy challenges require broad cooperation and innovation, echoing President Hakainde Hichilema’s call for increased engagement with traditional leaders to support solar energy investments and expand access to clean and reliable energy across the country.
