Lusaka — A multi-sectoral Indian business delegation today visited the Ministry of Energy to explore investment opportunities and strengthen partnerships aligned with Zambia’s national development agenda.

The delegation—facilitated by the Indian High Commission in Zambia—included investors with interests in solar energy, energy infrastructure, civil engineering, and steel processing. Several delegates expressed readiness to finalize investment agreements immediately.
Minister of Energy, Hon. Makozo Chikote, welcomed the delegation and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to ensuring a secure and stable investment environment. He highlighted the country’s current power deficit and emphasized the importance of strategic private-sector participation to meet growing energy demands.

“Zambia is focused on diversifying its energy mix and encouraging private sector participation, particularly in the energy sector,” Minister Chikote stated.
He noted that the ongoing power shortfall has slowed economic growth and presented challenges to key industries such as mining, which aims to reach a production target of three million tonnes annually—an ambition that requires a reliable energy supply.

The Minister further explained that although many investors have shown interest in the sector, some have faced financing constraints. He confirmed that the Ministry has already identified priority sites for power generation projects to enable swift implementation once investments are secured.

The visit signals rising international confidence in Zambia’s energy and infrastructure sectors and highlights the potential for accelerated investment in projects critical to the country’s economic transformation.
