The department is responsible for the development and implementation of policies, programmes and projects on renewable energy, energy efficiency, electricity and power development in order to order to facilitate socio-economic development.

• Electrification Unit

  Undertake the preparation of electrification projects and programs, conduct project appraisals and supervisor the implementation of activities in-order to increase accessibility to electricity.

• Power Development Unit

          Undertake implementation of power development plans and programs in-order to facilitate expansion of the power              systems and improve accessibility and sustainable utilization of the resource

• Renewable Energy Unit

  Undertake the preparation and implementation of renewable Energy programs in-order to promote wide application of renewable energy technologies.

• Energy Management Unit

  Undertake the Preparation of Energy Management programs in-order to facilitate utilization of energy

• Office for the Promotion of Private Power Investment (OPPPI)-

  The OPPPI is responsible for the promotion of the private sector participation in the development of power infrastructure in Zambia.

• Facilitate the development and review of policies and legislation on energy in order to provide an appropriate framework for the effective management and implementation of programmes
• Facilitate the construction, rehabilitation and maintenance of energy infrastructure in order to ensure the security of supply.
• Promote the development and utilization of climate-resilient and renewable energy technologies

• Maintain a database on energy resources, production, distribution, consumption and pricing

• Formulate and review energy strategy and action plans in order to facilitate resources mobilization and attainment of set objectives
• Provide technical guidance and support to stakeholder institutions on matters relating to efficient management and conservation of energy
