Wind and Solar Resource Atlas
The Resource Atlases For Solar And Wind
The World Bank working with the Ministry of Energy has successfully implemented the Resource Mapping Project for Solar and Wind resources in Zambia which can be used for power generation. The Project which started in 2015 collected data for solar and wind for two years and was completed and the Resource Atlases compiled in December 2018.
The Resource Atlases were launched on 25th June 2019 by the Minister of Energy, Hon. Matthew Nkhuwa and the World bank Country Manager Ina-Marlene Ruthenberg.
The solar resource equipment for data collection was installed in the following places:
- The University of Zambia
- Misamfu, Kasama
- Longe, Kaoma
- Mutanda, Solwezi
- Mount Makulu, Chilanga
- Mochipapa, Choma
The 80m Wind Masts were installed in:
- Chisamba
- Petauke
- Lumezi
- Mpika
- Nakonde
- Mansa
- Choma
- Mwinilunga
The assets were also transferred to the Zambian government during a Press Briefing. Below are the links to the solar resource maps;
